HELA WIGMEN AND LAE TIGERS PROGRESS IN DIGICEL CUP FINALS

The Hela Wigmen and Lae Tigers will meet in next weekend’s PNGRFL Digicel Cup Minor Semi Final after winning their respective Elimination Finals on Sunday.

Played as a Double Header at the National Football Stadium in Port Moresby, the Hela Wigmen clashed with the Enga Mioks in the opening game of the day.

In a tight encounter, the Hela Wigmen scored first in the 21st minute through hooker Tapia Solu. Solu added the extras before Enga scored their first try in the 27th minute to level scores.

A penalty shot in the 35th minute allowed Hela to gain a two point lead heading into the half-time break, which they maintained throughout the second half to secure their 20 – 18 victory.

In the second match, little could separate the two sides in the first quarter, with scores locked up at 4-all, before the Tigers scored two quick tries to setup a 16 – 4 lead over the Central Dabaris.

The Dabaris put up a fight in the second half, however were no match for the more experienced Lae team, going down 22 – 14

The Lae Tigers and Hela Wigmen will now clash in next Sunday’s Elimination Minor Semi Final, with the winner to face the runners up of the Major Semi Final between the Mendi Muruks and Rabaul Gurias.
